I am writing in response to your claim that social media plays a big role in the censorship of comedians. I agree that Twitter does allow for people to make sure that comedians are held accountable for what they say. This is not a bad thing at all. If we allow people to say offensive and irresponsible things then we are stunting the growth of our society. People like Kevin Hart should be censored, not celebrated for his despicable homophobic comments, no matter how long ago they were. Everyone has an opportunity to review what they write before they tweet it out, and he clearly perceived his words to be okay. It is imperative that we continue to monitor what our leaders in society say, and make sure that we can hold everyone accountable.

I am a high ranking official in the United States Government. I believe that it is extremely necessary to allow for politicians to be targets of comedy. It connects the politician to the people he or she serves and reminds everyone that we are all human. It is extremely dangerous for comedians to be censored for political gain, and this is a practice that is carried out all over the world. Another problem of  comedic censorship is that it is a direct and total violation of the Constitution's Freedom of Speech clause. The founders of our country made it clear that people have the right to speak their minds, even if those words are critical of politicians.

I am a college student at UCLA. I believe that we should continue making sure comedians aren't coming into our schools and making fun of everyone. We are a home to so many different types of people who have each gone through their own struggles in life.  The point of comedy is to bring us together, but when someone comes in and makes fun of a certain group, this isn't fun.  It's just not what college is about. We want to be in a place where we can come together and create an atmosphere of acceptance and tolerance. There are other types of comedy that are funny and comedians should just stick to that.
